VISTA # 9 CAMPOREE INFORMATION
WILDROSE PROGRAM CENTER, ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS
October 10-12, 2008

What is a camporee? It is a great opportunity to have fun with other Girl Scouts from VISTA 9. Our fifth annual camporee will be held at Wildrose Program Center in St. Charles, Illinois, about an hour west of Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park. This event is open to all Brownie scouts and older; however, Brownies are invited only to spend the day, while Juniors and older scouts are invited to stay overnight both Friday and Saturday nights. Wildrose can accommodate less than 175 to sleep overnight—our VISTA includes over 1400 girls. The total registration number will be 250 for everyone’s safety and to insure the best Girl Scout experience. Registration is first come, first serve. Adults are to accompany and supervise their girls at all times.

If you are a Brownie troop coming for the day, you must sign up for the bus (there is not enough parking space available to do otherwise). The bus will leave promptly at 8:30am on Saturday October 11, 2008 from a predetermined location (last year it was Julian Middle School). You will return to the same place at about 6:15pm. We will provide lunch and a snack for you and your girls, but you must provide permission slips and a qualified First Aider for your group. Adults are only allowed per the number Safety Wise allows. We plan to offer 3 activity sessions, which may include a tour of Wildrose Program Center, an outdoor sports activity or if the weather is bad, indoor games, and a craft activity. Cooking lunch will be part of the fun as well. Older Girl Scouts may assist with the activities and fun. We will have a closing ceremony at Wildrose Theater with lots of singing. Buses will leave Wildrose at 4:30 pm and arrive back in Oak Park at about 6:15pm.

Junior and older girls can arrive on Friday evening at their convenience, but leaving the Oak Park area at 6:00 pm is just about as good as at 4:30 pm in the afternoon due to traffic delays. Friday evening will be a time for your troop to get adjusted, wind down from the week and plan your other activities on Saturday evening and Sunday. There won’t be any program for Friday night…we will ask you to check in with one of us when you arrive…details will be communicated at the pre-camporee meeting. You will need to provide food for your troop for Friday evening, Saturday breakfast, Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. The program will begin on Saturday morning about 10:30 am. We may ask that the older girls help with the activities on Saturday. We will let you know what exactly this role will be at our pre-camporee meeting. This event has been successful partly because we group older troops with Brownies for the activities. Our closing ceremony will be in the late afternoon and the Brownies will leave at about 4:30pm. Saturday evening and Sunday morning will be a time for the troops to be on their own. Check out time will be between 11:00 and 12:00pm on Sunday.

A sign up sheet will be available at the August 27th VISTA meeting. Registration forms will be emailed to those who sign up at the meeting or to those who send an email to me if you cannot make that meeting.   Registration will be due by September 19th with exact numbers and fees. Our maximum is 250 so we will use this deadline, or when we hit the maximum number. Cost will be $15 per person. QUESTIONS? Email Judy Bradeen at jab1022@aol.com or leave a message at 708-383-6870.
