If you are adding new members, please submit the paperwork and deposit slips to the Registration Ambassador and the data entry will be done by the Registration Ambassador or one of her two gracious helpers. FEATURED EVANSTON GIRL SCOUT TROOPS

In each leader meeting agenda, we will be featuring the Girl Scout troops from two different schools. We hope that leaders of other troops will find it interesting to hear what these troops are doing and might pick up ideas for activities and trips.

Daisy Troop 98: The Daisy Girls Scouts recently earned the blue centers for their tunics in an Investiture ceremony.  We then celebrated by decorating wonderful wooden pumpkins. A sincere thank you to them and to leader Kristen L and our new leaders Joan L and Christine O for getting our troop off to a great start.

Brownie Troop 22: The Brownie troop has recently acquired two new leaders!  Special thanks to Eileen M and Karen K for rising to the occasion and volunteering to be our new Brownie leaders! The first troop meeting will be held on Thursday, November 30.

Junior Troop 522: We went canoeing at Emily Oaks to start the year off. The girls are interested in finishing the Signs they started last year. As part of the requirement for the Sign of the Sun, which encourages girls to explore their values, we did the High on Life badge, partly by touring the Evanston Police Station and talking to the officer in charge of the K9 unit.

Three of the girls organized the Halloween party, where the troop made eyeballs, fingers, tongues, and fangs from food. They have been making their own treats during every meeting so the Halloween snack makings were a natural outgrowth of that. At other meetings, they have made vanilla milkshakes, and cut up various fruits to share.

All the girls except for the one new to our troop earned their Leadership awards last year. They have started their research into their Bronze Award project, which is to package and sell the educational board games a couple of the girls designed last year for their Leadership awards. In preparation for that, we’ve done the Money Sense badge and will be doing the Business Wise badge at our next meeting.

Cadette Troop 99: Cadette Girl Scout Troop 99 went on a 25 mile bike ride in Michigan!  Our Cadette troop went with other Evanston Girl Scouts to participate in the Apple Cider Century Cycling Adventure Trip in Three Oaks, Michigan, on Sunday, October 1, 2006.  After a chicken dinner at a local Three Oaks church, the Girl Scouts stayed Saturday night at Girl Scout Camp Soni Springs outside of Three Oaks.  On Sunday morning, to fuel up before the ride, riders enjoyed an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast cooked by the firemen at Three Oaks fire station.  The bike ride took between 3-5 hours and went through the beautiful Michigan countryside.  After the ride, the ACC provided a spaghetti dinner for all riders.  All the Girl Scouts who participated found the experience truly rewarding!

Cadette/Studio 2B Troop 38: Our sixth-grade Troop 38, from ChuteMiddle School, is committed to the principles of global friendship and international understanding of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). We begin each meeting with the Girl Scout promise in English and Spanish. Our favorite troop dish is Chinese broccoli beef, which the girls enjoy making in the wok, chanting the "Eight Immortal Flavors" of Chinese cookery. This year, we have visited the Dia de los Muertos exhibit at the MexicanFineArtsMuseum, followed by lunch at a nearby taqueria, and dessert from a panaderia. We are planning a Kwanzaa cookie party, featuring traditional African-American foods. We are looking forward to trips to the DuSableMuseum, and to the new AbrahamLincolnMuseum in Springfield. Our girls also enjoy athletics. We attended the Girl Scout Day of the Northwestern women’s soccer team, and played broomball with the other Evanston middle school troops. We plan on seeing some women’s basketball at Northwestern and also perhaps a Chicago Sky game. Speaking of the sky, there is strong interest in an excursion to the Adler Planetarium. We are learning how broad our horizons can be!

Cadette Troop 2467: Although more than half of the seventh graders in our troop attend one school, we have girls from several other schools. Our primary focus this year is working on the Cadette Leadership Award which is the first requirement for the Silver Award. We have spent most of our time so far this year preparing for a “Brownie Badge Day” where we will run try-it activities for three different Brownie troops. We also participated in the middle school broomball activity and we are planning to go roller skating during winter break.
