Village of Schaumburg Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony - Ornaments Needed

Dear Girl Scouts:
The holidays are rapidly approaching, and it is once again that time of year for the Village of Schaumburg’s annual community holiday Tree-Lighting on Friday, November 24, 2006. The ceremony will be located outside on the plaza between the Village Municipal Center and the Prairie Center for the Arts. The Village is hoping to decorate the tree with handcrafted ornaments by children in the surrounding area. The ornaments can be simple, but they must be able to withstand the elements of winter weather.
We would be most appreciative if you might be able to contribute some ornaments for this project. Decorations can be dropped off at the Prairie Center for the Arts (located at 201 Schaumburg Court), weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. by November 17, 2006.
The Tree-Lighting is co-sponsored with the Schaumburg Jaycees and will begin at 6:00 p.m. with caroling provided by the Village President and Board of Trustees. Santa is scheduled to arrive via fire truck at 6:30 p.m. along with a brief fireworks display to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of Schaumburg. Youngsters will then have the opportunity to visit with Santa in the newly dedicated Maggie Atcher Theatre. Refreshments will be served in the Center’s gallery and strolling entertainers will add to the festive mood of the evening.
Also occurring the weekend after Thanksgiving is the Village of Schaumburg’s 9th annual
Christkindlesmarket on Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26 from, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. each day. On Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. the entertainment includes a Festival of Lights which features local children holding battery operated candles to music by the St. Peter Lutheran Hand Chimes Choir. Any children interested in participating in this event should meet with their parent(s), guardian(s), or group at the information booth at the Christkindlesmarket at 5:15 p.m.
