Meeting Minutes:

Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - 7:00 pm

St. John Brebeuf Ministry Center, 8301 Harlem Avenue, Niles

  1. Welcome to Service Unit 405 Meeting

    • Welcome and thank you for coming.
    • Please share with us any trips, crafts or ideas.
  2. Sharing

    • Some of our troops actually wore the cookie costumes for their site sales. All went well, and the girls enjoyed the experience.
    • A kiosk at Westfield Old Orchard was used for a very successful site sale.
    • Council recognized that there were some glitches with site sales at local Jewel grocery stores.
    • Site sales will be extended until May 15, 2011 and/or council reaches its goal.
    • KeyLime Cove [www.keylimecove.com/index.cfm] periodically runs special deals, such as on St. Patrick’s Day when they allowed 5 to 7 in a room at no extra charge. Click on the resort name to see their web site and learn what types of specials and packages are available.
    • One of our Daisy troops went to the Shedd Aquarium [www.sheddaquarium.org/] for a day.
  3. News and Updates from Council -- Sara N. (Membership Specialist)

    • Registration for summer camp programs opened on March 1, 2011. Postcards were sent to registered Girl Scouts’ homes as a reminder. Click here [www.girlscoutsgcnwi.org/summer-camp] to learn more about summer camp and to download the 2011 Summer Camp Guide.
  4. Recognitions and Awards -- Margaret T. (Park Ridge)

    • Thank you for all your nominations.
    • They have been reviewed and approved by our local task force, and sent to council. Award recipients will be notified.
    • Our local recognition committee would like to award our volunteers with their Years of Membership pins. This pin is for years of membership as both a girl and adult, and issued in 5-year increments (5, 10, 15, etc.). (This is different from the Years of Service pin, which recognizes only years of adult service, and is awarded at council luncheons.) If you think you are eligible to receive this pin or know someone else who might be eligible, please complete the appropriate page of the nomination application, or contact Margaret T. (Park Ridge).

  11. Service Opportunities

    • All troops are invited to make volunteer thank you table favors for our council’s recognition luncheons that focus on the theme Celebrate! The World’s Strongest Volunteers.
    • These favors should be "swap-size" and packaged in a plastic bag in groups of 10. These will be tabletop gifts for all of the attendees at these celebrations. Please be sure to use the word "volunteer" instead of "leader" if you are writing something on your thank you favor. Include your troop number and leader contact info inside the zipper bag so we know whom to thank in our printed program. Check your e-mail for more information.
    • If your troop would like to participate, please contact Youmna E., Director, Volunteer Service, North Region in the Vernon Hills Regional Service Center.
    • Council will need about 1,000 volunteer thank you’s in all. Deadline for submitting table favors to your closest regional service center was April 1, 2011. Please contact Youmna if you are still interested in this service project.
  12. Certificate of Insurance (COI)

    • All trip facilities/locations need to have a COI listing Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, 222 S. Riverside Plaza, Suite 2120, Chicago, IL 60606 as the certificate holder.

If so, you don’t need a new certificate. If you’re destination is not on this list, you may need to get a certificate of insurance to add to the list.
    • You need to e-mail or mail the certificate to Gail Ludwigsen, Vernon Hills Regional Service Center, 650 N. Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills, IL 60061; or fax to 847-573-1104, or e-mail to GLudwigsen@girlscoutsgcnwi.org
