DCFS Christmas Stocking Project
Hello, we are troop 41031. This year, our Gold Award project is the DCFS Christmas stockings. We will be delivering the stockings to the kids at the DCFS Christmas party that we will be hosting on December 4th .
This project will provide filled Christmas Stockings to disadvantaged children in service to the DCFS of Cook County. Along with candy and/or toy items that troops choose to include, we ask that each stocking include a winter hat, gloves/mittens, and a pair of socks.
Troop 1031 will supply the fabric. (Some troops have preferred to purchase their own fabric – this is fine, but please let us know and be sure to follow the template so all the stockings are the same size).
Here’s the plan: We’ll provide enough muslin to make the number of stockings to which you have committed (4 stockings per yard), one cardboard stocking template, one instruction page, and a resource/idea list for inexpensive toys. Troops who volunteer will trace, cut, sew, decorate and fill their stockings. You’ll return: assembled, decorated, and filled stockings. Each stocking will contain: hat, gloves, socks, small toys and/or candy as appropriate for age and gender. Please use the enclosed tags to label each stocking.
Girls are encouraged to use their imagination when decorating stockings (fabric paint, fabric markers, inked stamps, fabric cut-outs, iron-ons, etc.) No religious decorations.
Some materials will be available for pick up at the October 18 and Nov. 15 VISTA meetings, depending on when your request is made. Troops are welcome to make stockings for more than one age/gender group. They will be assigned to the best of our ability according to your preferences and the needs of the children on a first come, first serve basis. The needs are as follows:
0-1 yr. old boys 4-6 yr. old boys 10-12 yr.old boys
0-1 yr. old girls 4-6 yr. old girls 10-12 yr.old girls
2-3 yr .old boys 7-9 yr.old boys 13+ yr.old boys
2-3 yr. old girls 7-9 yr.old girls 13+ yr.old girls
All stockings must be completed by and returned by November 27 to 4101 Oaksbury Lane, Rolling Meadows. Call before delivery. If you cannot turn them in by this time, you will need to make arrangements to meet us another time. If you have them done, we can collect them at the November 15 VISTA meeting.
If you are interested in this service project, please contact us at V3_EventCoorPart4@gsvista.org with the following information: Troop Number, school name, Leader Contact info (name, phone, and email), ages and gender preference and number of stockings you can commit to.
