Service project from your Girl Scout meetings
VISTA 3 Girl Scout DCFS Christmas Stocking Project
This project will provide filled Christmas Stockings to disadvantaged children in service to the DCFS of Cook County. Our target this year is to contribute 200 stockings for distribution. Along with candy and/or toy items that troops choose to include, we ask that each stocking include a winter hat, gloves/mitten, and a pair of socks.
Senior Troop #692 will purchase the fabric. (Some troops have preferred to purchase their own fabric – this is fine too, just let us know and follow the template so all the stockings are the same size)
Here’s the plan: We’ll provide enough muslin to make the number of stockings to which you have committed (4 stockings per yard), one cardboard stocking template, one instruction page, and a resource/idea list for inexpensive toys.
Troops who volunteer will trace, cut, sew, decorate and fill their stockings.
You’ll return: assembled, decorated, and filled stockings. Each stocking will contain: hat, gloves, socks, small toys and/or candy as appropriate for age and gender.
Girls are encouraged to use their imagination when decorating stockings (fabric paint, fabric markers, inked stamps, fabric cut-outs, iron-ons, etc.)
Some materials will be available for pick up at the October 20 and Nov. 10 VISTA meetings, depending on when your requests were made. Troops are welcome to make stockings for more than one age/gender group. The needs are as follows:
0-1 yr. old boys
0-1 yr. old girls
2-3 yr. old boys
2-3 yr. old girls
4-6 yr. old boys
4-6 yr. old girls
7-9 yr. old boys
7-9 yr. old girls – filled
10-12 yr. old boys
10-12 yr. old girls
13+ yr. old boys
13+ yr. old girls
They will be assigned to the best of our ability according to your preferences and the needs of the children on a first come, first served basis.
All stockings must be completed and returned by Dec. 1 to 5813 S. Corona, Palatine, after 6 p.m. or a date before December 1, after 6 p.m. If you can not turn them in by this time, you will need to make arrangements to meet me another time. If you have them done, I can collect them at the November 10 VISTA meeting.
