Where:      Meet atRyerson Woods Welcome Center, 21950 N. Riverwoods Rd., Deerfield, IL 60015

What:        We will be replanting native plants in a rain garden. Last year, a rain garden was developed to capture and hold storm water runoff. The garden allows rainwater to be absorbed into the soil, instead of letting it move over the land to the Des Plaines River. Over the course of the year, some of the plants did not survive. We will be replacing some of the lost plants in this garden.

We will also be removing garlic mustard, a non-native plant species. This plant is considered to be invasive—it takes over the soil so that the native species do not have room or the proper environment to thrive.

Details:     Hand tools will be provided. Bring work gloves. Wear closed-toed shoes, and clothing suitable for the weather. Wear raingear if appropriate. Parents are welcome.
