Monday, May 31, 2010 - 11 am
All Girl Scouts who complete a "Forever Green" project will receive a certificate from GUSA and be invited to a Girl Scout Forever Green Community Action Event on April 10, 2010, Location TBA
Care about the environment and do something to protect it. A Forever Green Community Action Project is a project designed and led by girls to bring about lasting and sustainable environmental change in their schools/communities! Doing projects involving water usage, energy efficiency, waste management, green space and air quality are all part of becoming an environmental advocate - how you choose to do it is up to you!
Girl Scouts Forever Green Community Action Project can be done by girls of all ages. This project is to show how the girls can make an impact on the environment in the areas of air, water, green space, waste management, and energy. The projects can be done in schools or the community. Projects will be tracked on a GSUSA website. Soon after registering you will receive a project guide. The project guide gives you information on the different topics and project ideas. You will also receive an endorsement letter from the National Association of Elementary School Principals that can be taken to schools to explain the project to them. We are working with the Citizens Utility Board, www.citizensUtilityBoard.org. Through this partnership we will have a special Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana -Girl Scouts Forever Green webpage, girls will be able to do an energy audit of their home and find out how to help the environment and save money at the same time.
Any Girl Scout troop or Juliette grades K-12 may participate. Also, girls looking to earn a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award May create their own Girl Scouts Forever Green Action Project. Start by learning more about environmental issues such as air quality, energy conservation, green space, water quality and waste management in your community and then determine how you can make an impact!
