Share the Harvest
Jr. Girl Scout troop 40460 is coordinating with the Vernon Township Food Pantry to run this year's Thanksgiving food basket drive. Each year, Girl Scout troops from our area have adopted needy families from Vernon Township and put together a box/basket containing a complete Thanksgiving meal.
All you have to do is let troop 40460 know if your troop wants to participate (in previous years, we've had 100% participation), and what size family you will be willing to shop for BY SEPTEMBER 30th. Small families are 2-3 people, medium is 3-4 people, and large is 6-9 people. All food items need to be non-perishable. A grocery store gift card in the amount of $15-$25 must be included to cover the cost of the turkey and other perishable items like butter and eggs. Troops can take a field trip and go shopping together, or leaders can assign items for girls to bring in.
Some troops include small age-appropriate toys in their baskets (all toys must be new). Also, a large laundry basket or Rubbermaid tub makes a nice container, but you can use any decent box or basket.Food Baskets need to be delivered to the Vernon Township Office on Saturday, November 21 between 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.
I need contact information for troop 40460. We're sorry, but this information can only be given to registered adult leaders.
In addition to making the food baskets, all girl participants may receive an optional "Share the Harvest" fun patch for $2.50 each. Leaders who wish to order the patches need to place their orders with troop 40460 by Sept. 30.
