CADETTES/SENIORS AND AMBASSADORS
Spend a Day at the Girl Scout Center for Leadership & Innovation:  770 N. Halsted Chicago 60642 (312-416-2500 x259) Mon Jan 18th, 2010 (M.L.K. Day)
9 am - 2 pm
Cost $20 per girl
Bring: Lunch and a Water Bottle

Choose either:
Exchange City Program:  radio station, set laws, solve problems on the job in the bank, retail shops, snack shop and city hall. Learn about career options, personal finance skills and roles as consumers

Science Program:  science math and lang. arts in ecosystem featuring prairie, cave, lake, and forest.  Hands-on fun with projects, experiments, and exploration.  Create gadgets, problem solve, test the body, and conduct investigations to address environmental challenges

GIRL SCOUTS FOREVER GREEN COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT:
Designed and led by girls to bring about lasting and sustainable environmental change in their schools/communities! Projects involving water use, energy efficiency, waste management, green space and air quality are all part of becoming an environmental advocate
Register to become a Green Team! Attend the Forever Green Community Action Event on April 10th, 2010
Have until May 31st, 2010 to complete the project

SCIENCE SAMPLER:  program for Daisy and Brownies, participate in experiments.  Choose one or all three
Homemade ice cream, tye-dye t-shirt, make silly putty, fingerprinting, create volcano, launch rockets, optics, flinging ping pong balls, making edible comets

STEM Saturdays:

Girls Go Green:  Learn how to take better care of our planet: recycling, make your own recycled paper, decorate your own canvas bag, build your own biome, discover about global warming.
Oct. 17th: Vernon Hills Regional Service Center

Kitchen Science:  science experiments using ingredients from the kitchen.  Make your own ice cream, learn about yeast, make homemade pizza, investigate acids and bases and create bath soak and mud facials
Nov. 14th: Vernon Hills Regional Service Center

Lights and Optics: play tricks on your eyes and mind with optical illusions, create tie-dye t-shirt using chromatography, make moving cartoon picture:  $15 per scout (bring white t-shirt)
Dec. 5th:  Vernon Hills Regional Service Center

Animal Adventures:  research endangered and extinct animals, talk with a veterinarian, meet local police canine unit, dissect owl pellets, make edible cookie animal cell and more $15 per girl
Jan. 16th, 2010:  Vernon Hills Regional Service Center


GEICO:  All Teen Girl Scouts (ages 11-18) No license required!
Cost:  $15 (includes fun patch, goodies, and snack)   $5 )(includes a snack)
Nov. 7th 12-5pm, Collision Ctr of America Naperville
Meet the GEICO Gecko, see a simulated rollover accident, get hands-on experience changing a tire, jumping a car, and checking fluids, participate in a distracted driving activity, walk a straight line wearing impaired vision goggles, meet police officers
Sat. Nov. 14th, all except hands on experience:  9:30 - 2pm, Ctr for Leadership/Innovation Chicago, IL

HELP PLANT A PRAIRIE: Plant seeds in a fellow girl scout’s field in S. Wisc to bloom next spring

2BU STUDIOS: ENTERTAINMENT PLAYGROUND FOR KIDS
Our studios allow child artists to be creative and express themselves through popular arts while learning about diff. aspects of the art
  • Scout Book Publishing: $10 per scout: create personalized book learning about each other, facilitated by our book publishing director
  • Scout Music Recording : $15 per scout: record favorite song in professional recording studio, karaoke style, leave with licensed copy of recording and rock star experience
  • Scout Video Production: $20 per scout: create own music video, leave with licensed video starring themselves and fellow scouts
WISHING STAR THEATER:  "LET'S PRETEND" BROWNIE TRY-IT AND "THEATRE" JR BADGE
Talented staff will lead the interactive meeting and provide a craft and snack.  Each troop is responsible for purchasing the badges.  Cost:  $12 per participant, siblings welcome.  $50 deposit to hold date
Fridays from 3 - 4:30 pm or 3:30 - 5 pm
