Hawthorn Community Meeting
Meeting Agenda:

Townline School Cafeteria, Route 60 and Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills
Hello Hawthorn Leaders!
Following are notes from our April Community meeting.
Two different Hawthorn Junior troops presented their Bronze Award projects to the VISTA. Troop 41320 will be creating a Girl Scout CookBook as a fund raiser, and Troop 42425 will be conducting a reading/listening materials drive for the elderly. They will be forwarding information on how we can all easily assist them to reach their goal.
After this year our Finance Partner, Jenny Rudnick, is stepping down. One of you did contact Jenny about taking on this position for next fall, but Jenny didn't get your name. So of course, you can consider this your out, and not fess up that you called. But I will persist until you are found! Please again contact Jenny or myself and be sure we get your name this time! And thank you for volunteering!!
Also after this year, our Learning Opportunities Partner, Vicki Repsholdt, will be stepping down. Vicki has developed and led our fall series of new leader orientations to help leaders understand what their new 'job' really means. With all the materials developed, this position would be great opportunity for someone eager to share their experiences and guide our new leaders. Please give Vicki or myself a call to volunteer, or to suggest someone who would be awesome in this role!
And last but I hope not least, please begin considering who can step up to fill my shoes as your Community Ambassador/VISTA Ambassador. My daughters are in 7th grade and their interest in scouting is on the wane. They haven't given up on me yet, but I can just about guarantee that next year will be their last, and thus my last also.
Thank you to Charlotte Zimmerman for getting registration packets for all of the VISTA 15 troops! You should all have your packets by now, along with a condensed information handout Charlotte prepared. Key items to note:
- the new troop identifier, a 4 in front of your 4-digit troop number, MUST be on all forms;
- grade levels must be updated for each girl on the forms;
- old forms cannot be used;
- the preprinted position code of '14' for all adults should be updated to an accurate position code;
- the new grade levels are mandatory for each scouting level;
- deadline for early registration is June 30 to get a patch for each girl.
Thank you to Donna Callen for a very enlightening Friendship Fair! Many wonderful animals were highlighted, and over 2,000 square feet of rainforest has been saved thus far by Hawthorn Girl Scouts!
This year's Father-Daughter event for Juniors and up is not being held due to no one having time to coordinate it.
It was suggested that this year, the Leader recognition event should focus a bit more on leaders. With that in mind, we will not have a Girl Scout sponsored Leader event this year. However I will be working with Jami Pacer to purchase (hopefully) discounted Ravinia tickets for the Friday, June 26th show of the Indigo Girls. Maximum cost is $27 each, plus any service charge. Again this is NOT a Girl Scout sponsored event, just a gathering of those of us who have spent every second Monday night of the past 9 months together (or who wish they could have been there!). If you are interested in joining us, please email me back by May 1. Tickets will be purchased shortly thereafter as the Indigo Girls will sell out early. I will be sending a separate email of details to those who are interested and email me by May 1.
Troop 2425 is working diligently to put on this year's Browie TryIt Workshop on Friday, April 24, in the Aspen Cafe. Only troops 1290 and 1200 have registered thus far. Please contact Barb Whalen at to sign up, so they will be prepared with enough supplies.
Troop 1374 is working hard to coordinate this year's Junior Badge Workshop on May 8 in the Middle South Cafe. The Print and Graphics badge is the goal. Beth Dolce and Kari Proft are happy to accept donations of transparency paper to use in their event. Contact Beth and Kari for details.
The Fourth of July parade is scheduled for....the 4th of July! Jami Pacer is coordinating this event for Hawthorn and will have details shortly. Mark your calendars.
Our next meeting is Monday, May 11, 7pm, Townline. Our final meeting of the school year is Monday, June 1, the FIRST Monday of the month.
Thank you all for the time and effort you put into Girl Scouting! You are making an important difference in so many young lives.
Valerie
