Hello Hawthorn Leaders,

Please check contact information and let me know if yours is not correct!

Hawthorn Community Happenings as of 04/14/2008

1.     Check out our VISTA website for info on all upcoming events and for flyers!  VISTA
meeting minutes are also available there, giving details on the council merger, the program
changes for next year, Daisies and the Cookie sale, spring Camporee, and the Schaumburg
Flyers event.

2.     Please review the Activity List and choose an activity to assist with – commitments could be just one time, or a few regular hours during the life of the event.  Volunteers are always welcome.  We are looking for volunteer teams to coordinate the Fall Sale and the Daddy/Daughter Dance for next school year.  Ask your troop parents if they’re willing to help!

3.     Thank you to Stacey L for once again coordinating our Photo Shoot!  Troop Photos were taken on February 28 and the beauteous results were distributed at the meeting.  Please contact Stacey to arrange pick up of your photos if you didn’t get them yet.

4.     Thank you and congratulations to Janine J for a very successful and fun Father/Daughter Event!  Our older girls came out in force with their dads/significant others for an afternoon of laughter and fun.

5.     Thank you and congratulations to Donna C, Beth D, and Kari P (sorry if I’ve missed anyone!) for a feat-filled, exciting and educational Friendship Fair!  Although participation was a bit less than usual, it gave all the girls time to stop by every booth.

6.     The Brownie Try-It Workshop will be held April 25.  The Try-It achieved during the evening will be Senses!  Please contact Mary S or Jami P with questions.

7.   The Junior Badge Workshop will be held May 9.  Coordinated by Troop #2411, the badge achieved during the evening will be Room Art.  Remember, a requirement of bridging up is to complete a Junior Badge so here’s your opportunity!  Registration is due April 25 so supplies can be ordered.  Please contact Cheri L with questions.  A flyer was sent out previously and is on the website

8.     Our Annual Book Drive is coordinated this year by Troop #2411.  Donations will be accepted through April 10, and will be delivered to The Kids Korner and Purple Heart.  Please see the website for details or contact Cheri L with questions.

9.     This year’s Leader/Daughter Event will be held Friday, June 6 (note the date change).  Take the time to relax (really!) and enjoy an evening with your daughter(s), sponsored by the Girl Scouts, but NO WORK involved for you!  Note the deadline for reservations is May 12.  A flyer was sent out previously and is also online.

10.     Plans are in the works for this fall’s Hawthorn Camporee!   Cadette Troop #3097 will be coordinating the event as their Silver Award Project.  The dates are set for Sept 26 – Sept 28, at Camp Pottawatomie in East Troy, WI.  Deposits are due by May 16.  If we don’t meet the minimum, the event will be opened to the VISTA on May 17.  Please see the website for details.  Contact Chris R with questions.

11.     Spring Registration continues!  Troops that complete spring registration will receive a copy of the GSUSA book “Transforming Leadership: Focusing on Outcomes of the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience”.  The book introduces the new program content that will be rolled out this fall.  Also, please be sure one adult from each troop registers for eCouncil in order to process your registrations.  The registration form was previously sent out .  Instructions are on the form.  Logons are already being issued.

12.     Next meeting on Monday, May 12, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  See you there!

Happy Girl Scout Leader’s Day - April 22, 2008!  Thank you all for all you do for our Girl Scouts!

Valerie P
