Hello Hawthorn Leaders,
Nancy C is coordinating this year’s Earth Day events. There are two being organized:the Groceries Project and Lake County Forest Preserve Project. Details and sign up information are in the attached flyers. Please contact Valerie if you can’t open the flyers.
Also attached is the updated Hawthorn Leader’s Workbook, with contact/roster information, Activity List, upcoming meeting dates, and Leader/Troop listing.
Hawthorn Community Happenings as of 02/11/2008
1. Send email address updates to Valerie P. Sorry about the conflict with the district school board meeting. Both schedules were set at the beginning of the year and neither can be changed.
2. Please review the Activity List in the attachment and choose an activity to assist with
– commitments could be just one time, or a few regular hours during the life of the event.
Volunteers are still needed for two activities: Friendship Fair Co-chair and/or task
assistance, and Fourth of July Parade Co-chair. We are also looking for a Fall Sale
Coordinator for next school year. Ask your troop parents if they’re willing to help!
3. Cookie Sale from Jeanne D and Karen B: Cookies will be delivered on
2/19 – please contact Jeanne to help unload trailers that morning. There are a few more sites
available for site sales – ask your cookie parent to contact Karen if your troop is interested.
Please try to save some brown case boxes for Jeanne to pack the Cookies for Troops after
the sale.
4. The Daddy Daughter Dance was nearly cancelled due to the majority of reservations coming
in way past the deadline, despite many reminders. Budgeting was extremely difficult this year
because of this. Jami P and Maria B did a great job of thinking out of the box to
make this year’s dance extra special for our younger girls.
5. Troop Photos from Stacey L: order envelopes were handed out to those leaders in
attendance. Contact Stacey if you didn’t get yours.
6. Winter Event from Sheri V: Details have been e-mailed to all leaders for the Ice Skating
event on March 9, 2:00 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. Registration deadline was 2/15. Contact Sheri with questions.
7. Father/Daughter Event from Janine J: the event is a Fun Bowl on Sunday April 6, for
$12 per girl, $10 per significant male adult, which includes shoes, bowling, drink, snack and
patch. The details have been emailed out to Junior and above leaders. This event has been
cancelled in the past due to lack of participation, so please remind your parents to mail in their
reservations ASAP!
8. Friendship Fair from Donna C: details have been e-mailed out, however only 3 troops
have responded thus far. The deadline was 2/15. If we don’t get at least 10 troops to
participate, it will be cancelled by Tuesday, Feb 26. Because participating troops put a lot of
time, money and effort into their displays, it is not fair to them to have an event with such low
attendance.
9. Girl Membership update from Janine J: all interested girls have been placed,
including a few from our sister VISTA communities! Thanks to all the troops who have welcomed all the new girls!
10. Next meeting on Monday, March 10, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. See you there!
