Hawthorn Community Leader Meeting Agenda for 12/10//2007
At the VISTA meeting, information on the change to the new age grouping was distributed (I only have
hard copies). In a nutshell, GSUSA has indicated that councils can change over between fall 2008
and fall 2010. Because GSICC has not yet received the new program materials, GSICC will not be
converting until spring registration 2009 for fall 2009. Prairie Winds Council is changing over this fall
so you may see or hear something about that since we are closely aligned with them. But we will not
change over to the new grade levels and new program materials until fall 2009.
Mini trainings are available on our VISTA 15 website under the VISTA Trainings menu. Many are
topics you’ve been asking about including Flag Ceremonies, Troop Management Tips, Girl Scout
Traditions, Songs, Games, etc. I know from experience that many of us would really prefer someone
to just sit down with us and tell us all the important things to know. But that will only happen with new
leaders and only if they go to New Leader Training. We are all volunteers with limited time, so the best
resource for this information will be VISTA meetings and the mini trainings. Please take advantage of
them.
All incentives for Fall Product have been delivered/picked up. Hawthorn troops had about $21K in
sales, up $2K from last year! Many forms were turned in late making Angel’s job much more difficult
than it had to be. Please pay attention to deadlines in the future...if you were coordinating the event
you would naturally expect this of others. Thank you Angel for another successful year!
Sandy W has volunteered to co-chair this year’s Cookie Sale with Jeanne D - thank you Sandy! Information has been distributed to the Cookie Parents, and the sale officially begins January 4.
Flyers were distributed for the annual Daddy/Daughter Dance on Feb 15. This year’s theme is "It’s a Girl Thing!". Contact Jami P or Maria B for more information.
Put March 9 on your calendar for our Hawthorn Winter Event at Glacier. Details to follow.
Themes for the Friendship Fair were discussed. Mark your calendar for April 13. Details to follow.
Last but certainly not least, we need volunteers to co-chair next year’s Camporee. We need to make reservations NOW for next fall, or we will not get the weekend that is best for all. Next fall we are scheduled for the traditional Camporee where we run it ourselves. That takes a lot of effort, but if spread across many folks it is much more reasonable. Last year, Eden did the entire event herself! And the year before Eden and Jeanne D co-chaired the entire event! Since we all enjoy going, we all need to help. Please let me know what aspect you and your troop parents can be counted on to coordinate - site planning, collecting/purchasing food, kaper charts, activities, crafts, planning meals, ceremonies, cooking meals, clean up, etc. Just pick ONE and CALL me!!!
