COUNCIL
SPEAKER: GSICC MAJOR GIFTS AND GRANTS OVERSIGHT SPECIALIST
Jill is the Family Partnership contact for the council.
She will be working with our VISTA starting in March when the Family Partnership Campaign begins for 2008. She is working on new materials to make the campaign more successful. The goal is 100% participation based upon what the family can give.

REGISTRATION
- Paperwork – turn in any outstanding paperwork to your Registration Partner ASAP.
- E-Council Membership Access
Due to the numerous requests that the council has received to restore troop leader E-Council membership data entry access, passwords have be re-activated for all troop leaders that previously had access to E-council. Troop leaders will have access restored by 9:00 a.m. CST on Thursday, January 10, 2008 and will be deactivated on Monday, February 11, 2008. Troop leaders are encouraged to complete membership data entry within that time frame.

Girl Scouts of the USA is searching for shining examples of how girl members are changing the world. Girl Scouts of all ages from across the globe, including Girl Scouts Overseas, will be featured in the 2009 Girl Scout Calendar. DEADLINE: January 23, 2008. See the VISTA website for details.

PROJECT LINUS SERVICE PROJECT
- VISTA Service Project. Troops can either make a blanket to donate or donate supplies.
- Donations should be turned in at tonight’s meeting.
- Kim will accept donations until next week.
- Project Linus patches cost $1.50 each and can be ordered through Kim (make checks payable to Service Unit 728) or leaders can order them on their own through the Project Linus website. There is also a generic patch that is available that costs less.

EARTH DAY
- Earth Day is April 22, 2008.
- We are interested in planning a VISTA activity.
- It can be on Earth Day, an Earth Week or and Earth Month event.
- Ideas include poster, essay, or art contest with an earth theme. Involve schools, libraries, communities. Decorate grocery bags with Earth Day themes for local grocers.

Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Information is available in Girl Scout Adventures as well as your VISTA’s Connect with the Latest VISTA News feature (on your VISTA’s homepage). More information will be made available as we receive it.STEM Saturdays
Girl Scouts - Illinois Crossroads Council is pleased to introduce STEM Saturdays, designed for girls ages 9-17. Each Stem Saturday will focus on a different exciting topic of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. ($10 per participant; capacity 100 girls.)

- Betty G shared their troop’s experience participating in the LEGO Robotics competition sponsored by Motorola. The girls worked together to solve problems and design a robot. They won an award and learned to work as a team to complete the task. It taught the girls about project management, organization, creativity, leadership and team building. The troop would highly recommend participating in these programs.
COMPUTER LAB
- Another resource available at the council is the computer lab.
- There are 15 laptops available for use.
- The cost is a $15 flat fee.
- The computers can be used to work on various programs designed by the council or on try-its or badges.
PRAIRIE WINDS COUNCIL – NORTH STAR
Illinois Crossroads Council is collaborating with the Prairie Winds Council, which offers more than 1000 activities for all age levels and interests, plus adult trainings. To access the North Star Program Guide, go to "www.girlscoutspw.org/registernow".
