Think Healthy!

Libertyville Girl Scouts 2009 World Thinking Day

Sunday, March 15, 2009 1:00pm-4:30pm Butterfield School

In celebration of Girl Scout World Thinking Day 2009, Libertyville Girl Scout Troops are invited to embark on a "Think Healthy!" World Health Mission. The World Health Ambassadors (i.e. scouts) will travel the globe on a mission to learn more about the world as a whole and the health issues that it faces.

ITINERARY World Health Ambassadors will tour five (5) countries on their worldwide adventure. In each country, there will be five (5) Points of Interest that the World Health Ambassadors will visit. Scouts will visit each point of interest for approximately five (5) minutes. Each troop will sign up to design one (1) point of interest in one (1) country. This is a change from past years.

COUNTRIES

1. Costa Rica (Western Hemisphere)

2. Fiji (Asia/Pacific)

3. Ireland (Europe)

4. Jordan (Arab Region)

5. Kenya (Africa)

POINTS OF INTEREST

1. Information Center

Put stamp on passport (label). Locate the country on a map of the world. Topic ideas include population, geography, environment, economy, government, girl scouting. This is the area for general information on the country.

2. Cultural Center

What language do they speak in your country? Teach scouts how to say "hello", " goodbye", "please" and "thank you" in your country’s language. Play music specific to your country. Famous people from the country. Other culture.

3. Food Court

The scouts will get to sample food from the country at this point of interest. Food should be easy to serve. Remember that these are children and plan food accordingly. Ideas include making a placemat with food facts/trivia/puzzles/etc printed on an 8 ½ x 11 white or colored paper. Food allergies will be communicated as soon as they are known. (A lunch table will be provided.)

4. Medical Center

Describe medical care in the country. What are health issues in the country? Dangers? Is Malaria a health issue in this country? What improvements can be made?

5. Souvenir Shop

Visitors will make a swap at this Point of Interest. The theme of the swap should relate to the country being visited. Swaps should be simple to make. Scouts will only have five (5) minutes to assemble the swap. Swaps should be made so that they can be hung from the lanyard (safety pins work well). Please have enough supplies so that each girl attending can make a swap. (A lunch table will be provided.)

COST Cost is $15.00 per troop and $3.00 per girl attending. Each scout will receive a reusable water bottle, a lanyard, a passport and a 2009 Thinking Day Patch. PAYMENT IS DUE BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2009.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL SCOUTS! We are planning to celebrate the Girl Scout Birthday at the Thinking Day event. Scouts are encouraged to bring their change to give as a birthday present to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund!
