“Architectural Feats”

Inquiring Minds Want to Know

Girl Scouting is about Exploring, Experimenting, Learning, Figuring out what is important to them, and Developing ultimately into a responsible individual who contributes to their “corner” of the world however big that is.

Success and personal accomplishments require a bit of inspiration, knowledge, a lot of sweat and sacrifice, and sometimes setbacks.  Every Architectural Feats has been inspired either by a spark of creativity, a will to survive, or out of devotion/respect to a great person or event.

It is the goal of this years Friendship Fair to have the girls experience some of these character building traits and instill these ideas into their thoughts through researching some marvelous architectural feats and really see what it took to “Get the Job Done”!  It will also be a great opportunity for the girls to have FUN as they work together building the model(s) of their chosen project.

Each troop will pick a specific “feat” and research the Who, What, Where, Why, and How. It is very important they the leaders work with the girls at an age appropriate level, but make sure that the girls understand all that was involved in “building” their chosen feat.  We want them to realize the dedication of the “inventor” and the team of people to build this beautiful  contribution is a magnificent feat in itself!  In addition the troop will build a model(s) using creativity, any technique or adapting any technical angle they want.

The selections are almost limitless so we don’t expect to see a lot of overlap.  Things are built everyday and in some way or another can be considered architectural feats.  The troop can pick famous, magnificent buildings, monuments, bridges, or other life saving project like the Great Wall of China!  Or they can pick everyday things such as igloos (how do they build these homes and cook in them and not have them melt?), teepees or even the Rose Bowl Parade Float (how can over 2 million flowers get attached in less than 24 hours?)!

So let’s dig in, get your hands dirty, your minds churning, your imagination stimulated and hearts racing for adventure!  See you on April 13 with the Magnificent Feats our Vista 15 girls have made!

The formal registration form with deadlines and additional information will be available in about 2 weeks. I’m still working on the exact cost of the event, but as in the past it will primarily be the cost of a patch.  I’m working with The Hub to help find an appropriate one for this adventure!  I just wanted to get this notice out so the leaders have enough time to create and plan with their girls.  You are more than welcome to e-mail be in advance of the official registration forms and let me know what project your troop is interested in undertaking.

Also note, we are still looking for a co-chair for this important event and carrying on a wonderful tradition in our Vista.   If you have any questions/concerns or are interested in co-chairing please don’t hesitate to contact me.
