March 6, 2007 – VISTA Meeting Minutes
 
VISTA MEETING (New Info) – Kathy M
Ø       Opened the Meeting with the Girl Scout Promise to celebrate Girl Scout week
Ø       Juliette Low Fund Flyers available if anyone is interested in learning more about it.
Ø       Daddy Daughter Dance was a success. There are a couple of pictures that were left behind.
Ø       The Calendar Planning meetings had only 3 attendees, but many ideas were submitted.
o        The last session will be on Thursday 3/8 from 7-9pm @ State Bank of the Lakes.
Ø       The Corporate Meeting was on 2/24/07; several of our volunteers received awards.
o        If you were notified that you were receiving an award, you should receive it in the mail shortly.
Ø       Merger of Councils is progressing. The new name will be the Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana
o        They are investigating further the interest of an outside party to purchase the Happy Hollow property. (It will not be for development)
Ø       The Age level programs will be changing for the 2008-09 GS year as follows.
o        Kindergarten – 1st grade: Daisy
o        2nd – 3rd grade: Brownie
o        4th-5th grade: Junior
o        6th-7th-8th grade: Cadette
o        9th-10th grade: Senior
o        11-12th grade: Ambassadors
Ø       We have a new Multicultural Ambassador: Stephanie K
Ø       The Sharing/Networking of ideas is in the Cafeteria. Different patches, website resources, kaper chart, etc.
 
RECRUITMENT – Chelle T
Ø       Adult Membership Drive – Survivor Theme
o        Antioch has 4 new registered adults
o        Lake Villa/Lindenhurst has 5 new registered adults
o        Round Lake/Fox Lake/Ingleside has 6 new registered adults & took home the Survivor Immunity Idol.
o        Continue to turn in all adult registrations to your local Community Registrar.
Ø       New Troop manuals are available for those that need them.
 
REGISTRATIONS – Suzanne (for Audrey)
Ø       We have added 18 girls for a total registration of 1345. Goal is 1656.
Ø       We have added 66 adults for a total registration of 559. Goal is 880.
 
PR – Wendy T
Ø       The collaboration program recently run at the Round Lake middle school was either in the local Round Lake paper or Daily Herald.
Ø       Contact her for troop events & Vista events.
 
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS – Starr
Ø       New Items added to the website to check out:

PRODUCT SALES (COOKIES) – Jennifer C
Ø       It was a record year for Lake Villa / Lindenhurst with over 4,000 cases
Ø       Make sure to collect all girls cookie $ before Spring Break
o        It is recommended to collect the cookie $ prior to handing out incentives
o        Deposit cash into the troop account, checks in the council account
o        Staple bank deposits (2 copies) to the T-4 Form (get an extra copy for your records)
o        Caution on calculating profit/$ due council on the extra cases picked up from the trailers or the Hub – these earn $1/box profit. (Not the $0.75 or $0.85/box)
o        A copy of the trailer ticket must be attached to the T-4
Ø       Notify them of any issues with Incentives, cookies, etc.
 
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES – Robin M
Ø       Brownie leader training will be offered during the April Vista Mtg by Dorothy R (Please register in advance)
Ø       First Aid & CPR (email Robin if interested in any of the below classes)
o        Antioch has CPR & First Aid training on 3/17 at the Antioch Fire Dept
§         $20/class
o        CPR/First Aid by Red Cross (Free)
§         Sat 3/31 @ Round Lake Beach Police from 9-4 (Class is full)
§         Let her know if you are interested, they can try to secure another trainer or arrange for another class
Ø       Leader Nominations will be handled as a Vista (instead of by Community)
o        Forms can be found on the website under “Forms”, Leader Appreciation
o        Several recognitions are available: Outstanding Leader, Outstanding Volunteer, Thanks badge I & II, Excellence Award, President’s Award, Beaman-Denoyer.
Ø       Council Recognition will be held on May 17th.
 
COUNCIL EVENTS – Kathy M
Ø       There are a couple of Girl Scout events that are available on the website
o        Body Worlds @ Museum of Science & Industry
o        Six Flags (The hub is looking into purchasing a group of tickets to purchase directly)
o        Schaumburg Flyers in July
 
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT – Paige H
The Family partnership Jug is available for use at any VISTA or Community Events. Just contact Paige Hood to arrange for it.
Ø       The Mother/Daughter Bowling weekend collected over $100 in change
 
VISTA SHED – Holly Crites
Ø       There are several misc books available for borrowing. A container was available to look through, borrow and return the following month.
Ø       Any other requests, fill out the form. She will bring them to the Vista meeting, and you can return the items at the following Vista Meeting.
 
Daddy/Daughter Dance – Kathy M
Ø       Event was a success, with only 2 complaints. Approx 390 attendees at the first session.
 
Family skate – Dorrie G
Ø       Due at the April Vista meeting.
Ø       Families can make the check payable to Vista 14. Cash is also accepted. It does not need to be a troop check.
 
National river clean-up W/fox waterway – Heather C
Ø       No Update. Heather is still in need of assistance to further plan the event.
 
SUMMER PICNIC/OLYMPIC THEME – Nichol L
Ø       Date of July 22 @ Lakewood Forest Preserve
Ø       More details to follow next month
 
BROWNIE WORKSHOPS – Linda R (Antioch)
Ø       Her troop will be hosting (2) Brownie Workshops (see the website for details)
o        Tea Time
o        Craft Day for Brownies
 
RELAY FOR LIFE – Becky K
Ø       Looking for girls/adults to help volunteer their time on July 28-29 from 6pm-6am
Ø       Girls can make swaps, escort survivors, paint windows in downtown Antioch, hand out swaps, or be a “runner” for water, wagon, bug spray, etc.
 
MARCH OF DIMES – Becky W
Ø       Looking for girls/adults to help volunteer their time on April 29 - 9am Sunset Park in Highland Park
Ø       Girls can be clowns to entertain children, work in the craft tents, donate Pink & Blue Crayons.
 
Courtney’s Corner – Courtney
Ø       Spa Day @ Morrison on April 14 from 9-4:30
o        Open to girls in Vista 14 (age 11-17) plus 1 friend
o        Currently only 14 girls registered
o        Will consider opening it to other Junior scouts age 10, 10-1/2
o        If the maximum is not met, girls will be welcome to invite another non-registered friend
 
WILDERNESS PURSUIT – Linda (Antioch)
Ø       Looking for 3 girls/adults (grades 6-7-8) to do an extreme camping trip @ Wilderness Pursuit on June 22-24. 
Ø       Cost is $250/girl
Ø       Trip consists of riding horses to campsite (approx 12 miles) camping overnight and riding back. All meals provided. Will have to dig latrine at campsite.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ø       The Leader appreciation event has been cancelled. The appreciation will be done as a Vista during the last meeting in June.
Ø       Make sure to check or notify Carisa of any changes in your troops contact information.
Ø       Mailboxes are available, so please check your folder for any id cards, flyers, patches, etc.
Ø       Please let Carisa know if you are interested in a position as an Ambassador, Cabinet or community member, if you want to continue in your current position, are thinking about volunteering in a position, or need a break from your current role.
o        We would like to have all new members placed in the new roles by the June Vista meeting.

o        If minimum # of attendees are not registered, the training will be cancelled
 
COOKIE SALES – Mary R
Ø       Give any Thank you cards/posters and/or cookie donations for Grant Township to Mary
Ø       T-4 form (with deposit slips) are due to Mary R no later than 3/30/07!
Ø       CAUTION: Any cases of cookies (over 3) picked up at the trailer/hub earn $1/box – not the $0.75 or $0.85 earned for all other boxes.

Lake Villa/Lindenhurst Community Meeting Minutes:
 
* Girl Scout Sunday is this Sunday, March 11th, please remember to dress your scouts in uniform when you go to your place of worship.  You may elect to give a patch to girls in your troop who participate in this activity.
 
* Girl Scout Birthday - March 12th
 
* Operation Quiet Comfort by Troop #654 has been collecting old jeans to make into quilts for the injured soldiers.  They have passed along a huge "THANK YOU" for all of those who have donated jeans.  This Sunday, March 11th at Prince of Peace following their mass at 12 Noon.  Please stop by to help sign quilt squares to be used for the project.  We would like girl scouts and families to stop in.  Contact Stefanie K for more information.
 
* Kindergarden Registration - we still need someone for Thompson and Milburn School.  Thompson’s school registration is March 15th.  Contact Chelle T for more information.
 
* St. Patrick’s Day Parade - on Saturday, March 17th The line up starts at Palombi School at 11am.  We are group # 10.  The leaders are responsible for their own permission slips and candy, but Stefanie will have temporary tatoos for the girls. People are still able to join us even if they didn’t sign up.  For the patches ($1 each), the leaders can bring cash or a check made out to "TROOP 654".  I will be placing the order on Sunday the 18th so I’ll have the final count from the parade. The patches should be here in time for the April Vista meeting. Contact Stefanie K. for more information.
 
* Me & My Guy Laser Tag on Sunday, March 18th at Rinkside Sports.  No more registrations will be accepted after Friday, March 9th.  We need to call Rinkside no later than Friday 4 PM with an exact count.  Contact Starr H for more information.
 
* Cookie Site Sales locations are still available.  Contact Linda R for more information.
 
* 1st Grade Brownie Teddy Bear Sleepover on March 30th -31st at Morrison Program Center is FULL.  If you are scheduled contact Colleen B for any questions.
 
* Save a Pet Kitten Shower - Save a Pet is holding a Kitten Shower on April 7th from 12 p.m. To 2 p.m.  You are welcome to go as a troop or individual.  Please see the website for more information on what types of items they are looking for.
 
* Studio 2B Spa Day April 14 for girls 11-17 at Morrison Program Center.  This event was set up by Courtney just for our VISTA, let’s help make it successful and get your girls registered, they’ll have a great time.  Contact Courtney at the Hub for registration (847) 573-0500 ask for Courtney.  Each girl gets to bring a friend for a day of learning skin care, nail care, stress management, Nia (form of yoga) and learn to take better care of yourself.
 
* LEO - Leader Enrichment Overnight - April 20th through April 22nd.  This year the activity for Friday night is going to be "Small Crafts, Small Talk" with the hopes that everyone will mingle more.  Again, there will be a ton of great classes and always Leave yourself room for one of their wonderful messages.  Come for the entire weekend or just join us for Saturday.  Get your registration packet online.
 
* Double Punch Days at the Hub Girl Scout Shop.  March 12th and April 16th.  This is the time to get all those items you need from the Hub.
 
* Wizard of OZ production at Lincoln Marriott Theater - Saturday, April 14 beginning at 11 am.     Contact Bev M. for more information.
 
* 1st Grade Brownie Try-It Day April 28th at Martin School.  Contact Jordan H at for more information.
 
* VISTA Family Ice Skating - Sunday, April 29th, from 3 PM to 6 PM at Glacier in Vernon Hills across from the Girl Scout Hub.  Registration will be accepted at the April VISTA meeting.  This is a family event, so you don’t need to attend as a troop if you do not wish to.  However, each girl must be chaperoned.  Contact Dorrie G for more information.
 
 * Scout Days at Six Flags - May 12th and June 2nd.  The Hub is working on purchasing a block of tickets for this event so you can purchase them from the Hub.  More information to follow later.
* Watercraft Safety Class - Saturday, May 12th from 8 am to 5 PM.  At Morrison Program Center.  Contact Linda Richter for more information.
