All Scout Nanotechnology Event

Saturday, April 28, 2007 - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Northwestern University, Evanston, IL

Hi fellow Scout leader,

I have you in my contact list as a Scout leader interested in the All Scout Nanotechnology Event held at Northwestern University.  This year’s event (our 5th annual) is set for Saturday, April 28th.  I’ve attached the event flyer.

I’m publicizing the event thru the regional Boy Scout and Girl Scout council offices but have found word of mouth from leaders such as you is also a very effective way to spread the word about this extraordinary opportunity for our older Scouts to see how science is worked at a world-premiere research institute.  The state of Illinois was recently ranked #2 in the nation in research in the burgeoning field of nanotechnology – primarily due I believe to the strength of Northwestern’s program (apologies to my friends from U of I).  I don’t know of any other event like this anywhere that offers our sons and daughters this very up-close and personal view of how scientific research is conducted.

The date of this year’s event was shifted into April to eliminate the unfortunate conflict we’ve had for past events with the Science Olympiad.  I have a couple of Scouts in my Troop who have not been able to attend past Nano Events due to their commitment in Science Olympiad and I’ve heard from other leaders in the same situation.  I look forward to their participation this year.

If you have some older Scouts or Venturers or Explorers interested in science please let them know of this event.  I’d also greatly appreciate it if you could share this info with any other adult leaders you think may be interested in participating in the event with their Scouts.  Please give me a shout with any questions.

Thanks,
