Vista Meeting Minutes

September 17, 2008

  1. Opening - Flag ceremony led by Troop 331. Thank you!
  2. Fall Product Training - Natalie M
    1. Fall Product offerings are magazines subscriptions and candies/nuts from Ashdon Farms in WI (minimum of 12 items per troop for non-magazine orders).
    2. Sale period is from Oct 10 - Oct 26. Online ordering will be available earlier.
    3.  Daisies can sell Fall Product this year.
    4.  Theme is Reduce & Reuse
    5.  Drop off paperwork at Natalie’s or Sharyn W is Grayslake contact
    6.  Online ordering is available for magazines (see green flyer in Fall Product packet for online instructions)
    7.  Renewal orders need to be entered exactly the same as they were last year.
    8.  Use Harris Bank for deposits.
    9. Make checks payable to "Girl Scouts GCNWI"

    1. Finance
      1. Thanks to Lori F for all her hard work handling Finance and Large Events!!!
      2. Welcome Margie A as the new coordinator for these important roles.
      3. See handout: Top 10 List for Planning a Girl Scout Event.
      4. Bank accounts: Bring the bank information packet to your current bank to change the bank account info (due to the council reorganization). Then turn in the Bank Information Submission form to Margie. These forms were handed out at the August VISTA meeting
      5. Bank Forms are due at the Oct VISTA meeting.
    2. Registration
      1. Kathy R - Registration Ambassador. Thanks to Marsha D for all her hard work!!

      5. Troop registration deadline is Sept 28. After the registration cut- off, your troop will not be insured through the Girl Scouts, so please REGISTER NOW if you have not already.
      6. Please securely replace the lids on the porch boxes when you drop off or pick up items. Help prevent paper waste by keeping the porch box contents dry.
    3. Girl Membership Ambassador position is OPEN.
    4. Learning Opportunities

      1. Welcome Jessica M as the new Daisy Consultant

      2. Volunteer slots available the first Sunday of every month to provide dinner, dessert, or decorations.

    7. Committee Reports
      1. CPR Certification
        1. CPR certification class to be held at the Nov 19 VISTA meeting during the meeting) from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Bring $10 to the meeting if you want to participate.
        2. CPR certification through the Red Cross is good for one year, not two years, as stated at the last meeting.
  4. Events
    1. Please send an e-mail to Lydia with any field trip requests for your troop (date, location, time, etc).
    2. Corn Maze - register at Oct VISTA meeting. You do not have to be a registered Girl Scout to attend, but everyone (including family) must register for the event.
    3. Food Drive - See flyer or contact Rachelle E. Volunteers are needed, especially for setting up boxes at local schools. Your troop does not have to go out as a group and collect; girls can work individually. Register at the Oct VISTA meeting.
    4. Warren Township High School Homecoming Parade, Sunday September 21, 2008. Contact is Susan C. Spot #10. Line up by 2:30 p.m. Theme is Enchanted. See Sharyn W if you are interested in using any gear from the shed, such as flags or banners
    5. Don’t forget about Program Boxes at the Shed. Contact Sharyn W for information about signing out materials.
    6. Snoozeum event at Museum of Science and Industry is sold out.
    7. Bingo Night, Fri Nov 7, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. All Girl Scout levels welcome. Prizes! $5 per girl and $5 per adult. Contact Judy P or Sharon M for more information. Fundraiser for Canine Companions for Independence. Please bring a dog training item (tennis balls, sturdy tug rope) for donation at the door.
    8. Dirty Dancing stage show. Contact Coni P for more information.
    9. Please note that Medical forms are per event, except in the case of chronic conditions.
  5. Announcements
    1. VISTA Kickoff Meeting this Sat is cancelled.
    2. Remember the Tasting Tea is in February. Your troop should start thinking about what country they want to represent.
    3. Therapeutic Horseback riding facility - more info at next VISTA meeting
    4. Key Lime Cove is offering some scout events for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. See their Web site for more information.
    5. Jennifer K is taking over VISTA mailboxes from Marsha D.
    6. Email Jenner if you have items to distribute.
    7. Jennifer K is taking meeting minutes for VISTA meetings. Contact Jennifer if you have any corrections or comments.
    8. Remember to fill out Facility Request forms for use of Woodland district facilities.
