VISTA Girl Scout - Roller Skating Event
Monday, November 19, 2007 - 6:15 PM
Round Lake Roller Rink, 766 N. Hainesville Rd., Round Lake
Updated Nov. 6th:
Hi Troop Leaders:
For those of you who have already registered to attend the November 19, 2007 Vista 13 Roller Skating event, here’s some important information and reminders you need to know. Please read the entire message and save it to make sure you have all the necessary information for the event.
The service project for this event is Operation Christmas Child. Each troop should donate a minimum of one shoebox filled with small items a less fortunate child from another country will enjoy (no food or candy items. Happy meal toys, stickers, crayons/paper, etc. Lots of great small items from the Dollar General or gently used items from home are great too.) For item specifics go to www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC_PackAShoeBox.asp.
EACH shoebox should have a check for $7 (to cover shipping) payable to Samaritan’s Purse with “OCC” noted on the check. Shoeboxes can be delivered to my house on Thursday, November 15th and no later than 11am on Friday, November 16th. I will not be able to accept boxes after this time so your troop will need to contact Samaritan’s Purse to find out how to mail your shoebox to them. Do not bring shoeboxes to the roller rink as we will not be able to accept them. Click here to send me an email for directions.
CARPOOLING TO/FROM THE EVENT is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and necessary for this event. The parking lot is very small and will get over crowded VERY EASILY. Encourage girls to use the bathroom at home prior to the event as there are only a few stalls at the rink. The rink is closed to the public for our event. Troop Leaders are responsible for permission slips, waivers, medical info, chaperoning & transportation for your own girls. Girls who skate without protective head/body gear have to have signed waiver or their permission slip is void. Girl Scouts is not responsible for any girl injured while not wearing protective head/body gear (see waiver and see Safety Wise roller skating guidelines for more information). We are at capacity for the event.
When you arrive you will enter the rink with those who are on your registration form to sign-in all together beginning at 6:15pm. You will not be able to register until everyone on your registration form is present (unless someone is ill/absent). No parents will be allowed to enter the rink at anytime unless they are a registered adult volunteer listed as a chaperone on your registration form (no last minute add ons as we are at capacity). I have 11 girls in my Brownie troop and only myself and my Co-Leader will be chaperoning them. I apologize for any upset feelings for Troop Leaders who are unable to bring additional parents…..I’m in the same boat as you are. There will be older Girl Scouts that will be located in the center circle of the rink who can provide extra assistance to girls who may need help skating or learning how to skate. There is also a side skating area for girls that prefer to try out their skates without assistance and out of the main traffic flow of other skaters.
When you registered for the event, just a reminder that you were paying for patches for each girl attending and you will still need to pay $5 per girl and $5 per skating Troop Leader as you enter the skating rink. Girls who are not skating will be required to still pay the $5 fee to get into the rink. Troop Leaders that are not skating do not need to pay the $5 unless they choose to skate. NO ROLLER RINK FREE ADMISSION COUPONS CAN BE ACCEPTED (PER ROLLER RINK RULES). 4-wheeled skates are provided by the rink or you can bring your own roller skates/blades. Anyone wishing to rent roller blades instead of 4 wheeled skates will need to pay an additional $3 to upgrade. If a girl or Troop Leader chooses to bring your own skates, the rink staff will inspect them to approve them to be used on the rink floor. Girls can bring a water bottle labeled with their name if you choose. There is a concession area for making purchases at your discretion.
OLDER GIRL SCOUT TROOP VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! WE NEED 6TH GRADE AND OLDER GIRLS TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP THE YOUNGER GIRLS WITH SKATING AND FOR THE SIGN-INTABLE. Skate help is needed for 30 minutes / troop that volunteers to help out (so girls will not have to be helping the whole time, you can sign up your troop for 30 minutes of volunteering). Sign-in table help will last approximately 30 minutes. Please email me asap so I can set up your volunteer time.
If the patches for the event arrive in time for the event, they will be given out to Troop Leaders at sign-in time. If the patches do not arrive in time for the event, they will be filed in Troop mailboxes at the next Vista meeting. Patches will be given to those who sign-in to the event & paid for a patch.

P.S.
Just wanted to clarify that if your troop is donating more than one shoebox (only one is necesary but you are welcome to go bananas and make more shoeboxes) that you can write 1 check to Samaritan’s Purse for the amount of $7 multiplied by the number of shoeboxes to help them cover shipping costs.
If you have an older troop of girls aged (about) 6th grade and up, please email me if you are willing to help volunteer for 30 min. during the event to assist younger skaters. Thank you to Lori Friedl & troop for volunteering to help with sign-in table at the event. If no one volunteers, I’ll need to select troops and start assigning times so please email me before I need to do that. Girls need the volunteer hours so this is a great time to put in some time!
