Online Privacy Policy

Privacy is very important to us at Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, and we are providing this Privacy Policy to explain our protection of personal information about you and your children. Your continuing use of this Web site signifies that you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, and that you acknowledge that Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may change this policy at any time.

The phrase "Personally Identifiable Information" in this policy shall refer to information or a combination of information that you provide to us through the Internet that can be used to identify you or your children. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana does not collect any Personally Identifiable Information from children under the age of 18; Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may collect some Personally Identifiable Information about children ages 5 to 17 only from a parent or guardian, and then only in connection with an online Girl Scout Interest Form or Camp Reservation Form, which must be completed by an adult parent or guardian.

Additionally, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana does not release any Personally Identifiable Information about any of its visitors to outside parties without permission (except as may be needed for the limited purpose of providing services, or except in exceptional circumstances where this may be required by law or to protect legal rights). Our Privacy Policy is described in more detail below:

I. Collection and Use of Information by Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana

A. Children Under 18 Years Old
Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may collect Personally Identifiable Information about children under 18 years of age from a parent or guardian who completes an online Girl Scout Interest Form or Camp Reservation Form on behalf of the child, and submits it to Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

The Personally Identifiable Information collected on the Girl Scout Interest Form includes the age, grade, school and community of the child; it does not include the child's name. After submitting the Girl Scout Interest form, the child's parent or guardian will be contacted (in the manner specified by the parent or guardian) by Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana to help facilitate the child's enrollment in Girl Scouts.

The Personally Identifiable Information collected on the Camp Reservation Form includes the name, age, troop and/or community of the child. Parents or guardians who submit a Camp Reservation Form must also submit a credit card number. Parents or guardians who submit a Camp Reservation Form will be contacted by Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana (in the manner specified by the parent or guardian) to confirm the reservation.

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may use Personally Identifiable Information collected via the Girl Scout Interest Form or the Camp Reservation Form for its own internal purposes. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may provide aggregate information to other third parties (e.g., the total number of children visiting the site, or survey information with aggregate data only). Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may also use "cookies" for limited purposes, such as tracking use of the site - see the "Cookies" section below.

Parents or guardians are under no obligation to provide Personally Identifiable Information about their child(ren); however, providing some Personally Identifiable Information about a child is necessary for Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana to facilitate placement of the child in an appropriate Girl Scout troop or camp.

B. Other Individuals
For individuals 18 years of age or older, and for children under 18 whose parents have provided Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana with Personally Identifiable Information about their child(ren) for purposes of joining Girl Scouts, or for purposes of making a camp reservation, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may collect certain Personally Identifiable Information about such users to better serve their needs (for example, requesting a combination of user's name and/or telephone number, address, and e-mail address in order to communicate with you or to send you information you may request).

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana will not sell or release any Personally Identifiable Information about any of its visitors to any outside parties, unless it may be needed for the limited purpose of providing services, or unless under exceptional circumstances as may be required by law or to protect legal rights. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana reserves the right to disclose such information in the event that we believe that doing so is necessary to operate the site, or where such disclosure may be required by law, or to protect our rights or the rights of others. Finally, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may use third parties to host and store data, including Personally Identifiable Information, on third party servers; in such event, said third parties will be under an obligation to maintain the confidentiality of any Personal Identifiable Information, consistent with this policy.

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana may also collect, use and disclose information that is not Personally Identifiable Information (for example, we may keep track of, use and/or disclose aggregate statistics regarding the number of visitors to our website and other information that does not uniquely identify you or your children).
